Grower vacancy 2018, Glebe Farm, Pitney, Somerset.

Glebe Farm is looking for an experienced organic grower seeking a new challenge in 2018.  We are a 100 acre mixed organic family farm, set in South Somerset (about an hour south of Bristol), which has been run by our family for over 200 years. Most of our produce sells through our popular on site farm shop which stocks our veg and meat as well as other local and organic produce. We also supply our new on-farm café, several local restaurants and market stalls as well as attending a few local markets ourselves.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, good humoured grower who will get an, increasingly rare, chance to work on a truly mixed organic farm. As well as the market garden we keep 600 laying hens, 150 ewes, 30 head of cattle and a small herd of saddleback cross pigs. The applicant will be expected to continue to develop all aspects of planning and managing our expanding vegetable enterprise from planning to harvesting.  The area currently comprises 2 acres outside (with the potential to increase the current acreage) including an extensive range of field vegetables and almost a quarter acre of no-dig protected cropping. Although the chief responsibility will be growing and management of vegetables, there will be opportunities to be involved with all aspects of the farm operation. The applicant needs to be good at self-directed work. Experience of managing others would be helpful. The tasks and days will be very varied, and we’ll give you a cracking lunch and plenty of cake!

Regular hours would be approx. 40-45 a week, Monday to Friday at £8 per hour. Accommodation will be available.

Please email [email protected] if you are interested in the position, attaching a CV.

The application deadline is 20/12/2017 with the interviews early January.
