Organic Futures exists to inspire, inform and enable the next generation of organic farmers and growers. New entrants to the profession face many barriers, but there are solutions to these problems.

This website aims to share information and experiences that may facilitate the emergence of the next generation of farmers and growers. It is this new life blood that is essential to breathe life back in to rural Britain, ensure quality food is produced for everyone and farms are living, dynamic and vibrant places.

 

 

Inspiration: good career choice

Careers in farming and growing are often perceived as poorly paid, hard work, uninteresting and requiring little intelligence. This misconception is at odds with the reality of a modern organic farmer or grower, who requires an enormous set of skills to run their businesses. A career in organic agriculture or horticulture can be highly rewarding physically and mentally, whilst providing a sustainable income to live on.

Forging a career in farming and growing requires overcoming barriers that prevent many people from realising their dreams of living and working on the land. Organic Futures exists to help tackle these issues and offer a positive vision of what could become possible.
 
These are subdivided in to four sections: accessing Land; obtaining Finance; finding suitable Education; and rural Housing. All these pages have useful information, links and other resources.

Inform: getting started

Starting a career in organic farming or growing can be very exciting, but where do you start? Whether you're still at school, or have been in the same job for 30 years, it's never too soon to start thinking about a career in organic farming and growing. It's important to plan your path in to your chosen career to ensure you have the right experience to help achieve your goals.

 

These are subdivided in to four sections: choosing a career from School age; pathways if you're at or going to College or University; those planning a Change of career; and farm employees thinking about Making the leap to setting up their own business.
